Art Beijing 2016 Ends with Excellence
For Art Beijing, China’s favorite art fair, 2016 marked its 11th year of hosting. This year’s fair hosted 166 select exhibitors, a 19% rise in numbers from the previous year. All the galleries involved displayed an improved quality overall and as many as 150 of them made sales, trading more than 900 works of art in total. More than 350 media agencies covered the event, proving that Art Beijing now ranks among Asia’s most competitive and among China’s most influential art fairs.
This year the fair covered more than 25000 square meters of exhibition space, sectioned into four parts – the Contemporary, the Classic and the Design Pavilions, and the public art “Art Park”. The Art Intervention Art Park 2016 explored the keynote’s “art intervention in an ideal city,” centered on the theme of “art for tomorrow.”
Art Beijing received 95000 visits this year, reflecting the passion that has grown among the general public for our fair. Ordinary visitors could indulge in the visual pleasures of the fair, as well as the cultural feast that was the diversity of classical, modern and contemporary artworks and design works alike. This was a wonderful way to spend the May Day holiday, and many even became major buyers of art and design pieces, some bought at the fair itself.
For years, Art Beijing has attracted countless collectors from China and abroad. They have kept a close eye on the fairs and reaped what they desire at each year’s event. They have been a major reason why Art Beijing has been able to thrive for a decade. Having seen the exhibitors’ enthusiasm for Art Beijing and the collectors’ passion for art, we have been motivated to better our services.
In the 400-square-meter independent zone at the Classic Pavilion, we built an ART BEIJING STORE, where we partnered with brands and individuals most representative of the current aesthetic styles of urban life. Here we rolled out Art Beijing limited-edition products that integrate aesthetics with fun and neglect neither trends nor art.
Art Beijing 2016 also featured two special exhibitions, No.5 Xiaowei Hutong -- the Second Exhibition and Contemporary Ceramics. We invited Sun Future Art Education Foundation, founded by Ms. Yang Lan, to be our partner for a charity program at Art Beijing 2016, called Sun Future Children's Art Education Program.
Art Beijing ended its flawless 11th edition on May 3 at the National Agriculture Exhibition Center. Despite the bad weather, visitors nonetheless flocked to the fair. Multitudes gathered in front of the ticket office from 10am every day, so that every pavilion was teeming with people.
Art Beijing has become better and better with each passing year. Now in its 11th, we see there is unlimited potential for the future. Keeping to the idea of “locally based and Asia oriented,” we will strive to continue showcasing more excellence in the new decade.
